Lewis Isle Chess Set

Lewis Isle Chess Set is a genuine replica of the world famous Isle of Lewis chess pieces on display in the British Museum because of the direct involvement of the British Museum in developing the molds for these chessmen; this is the closest reproduction of the historic Lewis chessmen available at this date. When there was an original of Isle of Lewis around 1170 it was found that they are of Scandinavian origin and they also have an antique ivory and finish and are cushioned on a layer of burgundy felt.

Features of this chess set:

Lewis Isle Chess Set is made from a composite of crushed stone and resin that makes for the look and feel of stone, while exhibiting the durability of a composite one. The chessmen come in a beautiful Studio Anne Carlton Presentation Box and include the Chessboard that is accompanied with it. Due to its historical significance it is seen that there are a lot of historical attributes that add to the kind of quality it has with a different set of rules.

Associated history:

The Isle of Lewis is in the northernmost of the Outer Hebrides, which is a barren, windswept land of swamps, rocks and peat moss and this Island has a rich legacy of ghosts and Druid spirits. At this time there were 78 pieces in all, carved in Morse ivory (Walrus tusk) which are thought to belong to eight or more incomplete chess sets that seemed to be no counterparts for the very simply adorned, compact, expressive figures with their strong, forceful faces. There was nothing quite like them has been found before or since and experts are unanimous in declaring them the most astonishing collection of ancient chessmen in existence and that proves the historical significance of it.
